Drainage and flood assessment
you can rely on.

Understand where the water goes before it becomes a problem.

WHAT WE DO

Drainage & Flood Assessment

We assess how water moves through sites, drainage systems and watercourses, and what that means for flood risk and infrastructure.

Our flood work uses 1D and 2D hydraulic models to show water levels, flow behaviour and impacts clearly.

Scope of work

  • Major/minor drainage assessment
  • Floodplain analysis
  • Culvert and crossing hydraulics
  • Water levels and flow capacity
  • 1D and 2D flood modelling

Common questions

What is the difference between 1D and 2D flood modelling?

A 1D model represents flow along a channel using cross-sections. A 2D model spreads flow across a terrain mesh, so it handles wide floodplains and complex flow paths better. Many projects combine both.

When is flood modelling required?

Commonly for development near watercourses, for bridge and culvert design, and for floodplain mapping updates, as determined by the Conservation Authority or municipality.

What flood standard applies?

It depends on the watershed. In Ontario the regulatory flood is generally the 100-year storm or a regional storm event, and the Conservation Authority confirms which applies.
